OPERATION DETONATION DONE OVER

Over £1,000 worth of instruments and equipment belonging to up and coming young Salford band, Operation Detonation – part of the Salford Musical Youth project - was stolen along with a car in Broughton over the weekend.

Amongst the robbed items was a bass guitar belonging to 15 year old Rhys Shaw, who is now desperate to borrow another one for a gig on Saturday at the Star Inn and a recording session on Sunday.

15 year old Rhys Shaw, whose up and coming band Operation Detonation have been rehearsing with Salford Musical Youth*, has had over £1,200 worth of equipment stolen from outside his home in Broughton this weekend.

During the early hours of Monday morning thieves broke into his family house in Broughton...

"I was in the front room and someone has come in through the back of the house" Rhys's mum, Kim explained "They must have seen my keys on the table and they've taken them, and then taken my car with all of Rhys's equipment in it.

"They had been doing band practice at Albert's on Sunday and we were all so tired that we didn't empty the car" she added "We've lost all of Rhys's band equipment, his bass guitar, effects pedals, guitar bag and his jacks. We've totalled it up and there was over £1,200 worth of equipment stolen. But they also took his school biology GCSE final year course work..."

Rhys's band had been doing extra rehearsals recently for all the gigs they are about to play, including at the Star Inn this Saturday. They are also recording a song they've written themselves at SSR Studios on Sunday and are looking for someone to lend them a bass guitar.

"We all call him the bass player without a smile" said Kim "But now he's got a reason to not have a smile on his face."

Kim didn't have insurance for the equipment in her car, and her home insurance doesn't cover it either as it wasn't in the house.

Everyone in Salford and beyond has been sharing this story and the response has been incredible - Steve Evets, George Borowski and Hooky have all offered the loan of a bass.
