Children's Scrapstore, a national charity that has been running for nearly forty years, mainly in the South West, is opening a new warehouse and store in Salford, on the site of the old Grumpy unit in the Orchard Street Industrial Estate, off Langley Road South.
The Scrapstore does what it says on the tin, providing materials such as paper, card, plastic tubes, foam, fabric off-cuts and food containers and many more weird and wonderful items, reclaimed from businesses for anyone working with children or adults in a creative care, education or therapeutic setting.
Anyone working in these fields can become a member, turn up, fill a trolley with whatever is needed and just give a donation to the charity in return.
Meanwhile, the Artrageous shop will be selling high quality art and craft materials open to the public, with a 20% discount to members. The shop will also be hosting free art and craft sessions for families on some Saturdays from March.
"We are very excited to be able to offer more to children" says Jeff Hill, CEO of Scrapstore "Grumpy was a great servant to generations of children and now we have been given the opportunity to improve and build on those services to support children in and around the city.
"We are determined to get quality, cheap resources to as many children as possible through church groups, childminders, scouts and guides and a whole host of after school clubs and nurseries" he adds "Our society needs environmental ideas like scrapstores to effectively use our waste to support our social needs and we are looking forward to delivering that service here."
Children's Scrapstore opens in Salford this Tuesday, 9th February at Unit 14-16, Orchard Street Industrial Estate, Alderston Street M6 6FL. Opening hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-4pm
