Following much criticism by the community in Lower Broughton about his low profile in the aftermath of the Boxing Day flood, local MP Graham Stringer is set to face residents this week during a meeting of the East Salford Community Committee at River View Primary School.
Stringer will join a host of officials who will, hopefully, address community concerns around issues like how the flood happened in the first place, why there were no proper warnings, the failure of house defences and the post-flood reaction by authorities.
Alongside Graham Stringer will be John Kinsella from the Environmental Agency; Salford Mayor Ian Stewart; Ben Dolan, Salford Council's Director of Environment and Community Safety; Steven Forster from GM Fire and Rescue Service; Supt. Mark Kenny of GM Police; Councillor Derek Antrobus, Assistant Mayor Strategic Planning and David Hunter, Chief Officer for Civil Contingencies.
The flooding issue is one item on the agenda of the Community Committee and officials have allowed just half an hour for the discussion, although this can be extended by a vote of members. Any resident of East Salford can attend the meeting and ask questions or raise issues.
