WARRING SALFORD LABOUR PARTY ORDERED TO GET A `HEALTH CHECK’

Star date: 15th January 2015 SALFORD LABOUR COUNCILLOR WINS APPEAL AGAINST IAN STEWART AND CO Councillor Paul Wilson, who had the Labour Party whip removed in November for daring to declare he will stand as a candidate for Salford Mayor before Ian Stewart confirmed he was standing down, has won his appeal against the crackpot decision. In the process, the panel which upheld the appeal has `requested' that the warring Salford Labour Party gets a `health check' by the Local Government Association. Full details here...

Back in November, Councillor Paul Wilson had the Labour Party whip removed for daring to declare his intention to stand as a mayoral candidate for the Party, before Ian Stewart had announced he was standing down from the role. At the time, Salford Labour Party members told the Salford Star that Wilson's treatment was a blatant attempt by the Mayor "to crush any opposition to him" and that "We now have a Labour group split down the middle" (see previous Salford Star article – click here). This week, Wilson won his appeal against the decision after a hearing by a Labour Party Regional Board panel which agreed to restore the Party whip "with immediate effect". A Labour Party member told the Salford Star "This is good news and Paul Wilson has been vindicated now he's won his appeal. He should never have had the whip taken off him in the first place and now it's important to get a good selection process and a candidate who will stand up for Salford people." The formal decision letter sent to Paul Wilson added a final sentence, stating "the panel have requested an LGA health check for the group". It appears that the Labour Party itself has now recognised its dysfunctional branch in Salford, that is at war with itself and at war with anyone who dares challenge its power in the city. Its attitude is personified by the dysfunctional Mayor himself, Ian Stewart (see here and see here). However, Anna Hutchinson, Regional Director of Labour North West, told the Salford Star today that there was nothing unusual about the `health check' by the LGA (Local Government Association)... "It's a standard procedure" she explained "The LGA offers a sort of health check on groups. There's a number of groups across the North West that the LGA are going to do a health check on and it's been requested that Salford has one too. They will suggest any ways that they may be able to improve or be more effective and, obviously, with the Mayor standing down there's going to be a period of change with a new candidate. With that in mind the panel felt that it would be useful. It doesn't indicate anything; it's a standard tool so they can think about how they operate..."
* The Salford Star understands that Councillor Paul Wilson will now be standing as a candidate for to get the Labour Party nomination to stand for Mayor. Other Labour Party candidates are reported to include Councillor Roger Jones, Councillor Paul Dennett and possibly Councillor Stephen Ord

I suppose your silence and cowardice in not coming back on and answering a few questions tells us a lot about you, your definitely a Labour Party lapdog with no balls or back bone, the electorate needs to avoid voting for you like the plague, another Ian stewert but without the beard. | @Mary. Well if your not related, then you certainly won't know him, he only knocks on the door every four years, ha, ha. On goading him, definitely not, he put himself up for the position of councillor so has to take the difficult questions, if he dosn't like it he can always resign or do what all other labour councillors do and that's avoid the people who elected them. Have had dealings with his father Ronnie as a councillor and the kindest way I can describe him is useless, as all three labour councillors are in the weaste and seedley ward are. |

It's just I keep seeing your comments on various news stories and you are goading him and none of the others that think they can do it beer than the current clown. I actually agree with a lot of what you say and think the elected mayor shouldn't even exist. If these people are so passionate about this city why do they need to be paid and claim expenses for r very thing? ? |

@mary cunliffe, still think councillors like Paul Wilson and this labour council have nothing to answer for, read this from another page of the star and then ask yourself if you still want to be a cheerleader for Paul Wilson and the Labour Party. And remember, this labour council are going to spend £19 million of our money on a private garden in Worsley......

186 JOBS TO GO, CHILDREN'S SERVICES SLASHED, SOCIAL CARE CULLED...
Salford Council has announced £21.8million of cuts which include the axing of 186 jobs, over £6million slashed from Children's Services, over £4million culled from Community Health and Social Care, and over £3million pilfered from Public Health.
Most of the cuts, totalling over £14million, were passed at last year's Council budget meeting but there's £7million of new `savings', including almost £3million extra from Children's Services.

In the past, when Salford's Labour councillors have been passing massive cuts they almost have tears welling in their eyes as they denounce the Tories and agree to the slashing of services `with a heavy heart'. This year, so far, there's none of that. It's almost like Salford Mayor Ian Stewart has taken the cuts culture on board...
"We're determined to do things differently to make the most of the budget we have but we are still forced to face difficult decisions to balance our books this year and next" he stated as £21.8million of cuts were announced "...we're pioneering new approaches to try and protect services and support people as best as we can. But we are committed to continuing to provide high quality, responsive services for local people."
Indeed, a look through the Council's proposals for the massive cuts and the detail given makes everything look fine. For instance, a £1.14million cut in the 0-25 service, will, apparently, "develop increased flexibility and effectiveness" in services available for children...
Meanwhile, a £2.47million cut in the Looked After Children service will "reduce the need for children to go into care in the first place" and, if they do, it will "maximise high quality placements". And a £2.27 cut within the Community Health and Social Care budget will "provide better outcomes for older people, improved experiences of health and social care services".
Beyond the spin and doublespeak public services are being further decimated, aimed at the young, the vulnerable and the elderly... A £6.179million cut to Children's Services...A £4.229million cut to Community Health and Social Care... A £3.766million cut to Public Health... A £2.897million cut to Environment Services... A £1.51million cut to Corporate Services and a £437,000 cut to Regeneration.
Most of these cuts, totalling £14.557million. were announced at last year's budget meeting of the full Council (see here), but there's an extra £7million added to bring the total to £21.8million slashed off the budgets.
This includes £430,000 `saved' by making black bin collections every three weeks (see here); a further £150,000 cut to the Connexions budget; a £320,000 cut to the Council-pushed mutual adult care company Aspire; a £1.614million cut by making the community `self serve' online for contact with the Council; and a £25,000 cut to Salford City Radio.
Altogether, 186 posts will be axed, including the loss of 120 jobs through the online digital self serve move (see here).

| @mary cunliffe, tell me something what I have said that is wrong. this is a labour councillor that says that it is the Tories that are cutting the council budget, tell me Mary, if the Tories are cutting the budget, where did the Labour Party find £19million for an RHS garden in the rich leafy suburb of Worsley, £3 million a year for the BBC philomonic orchestra, want me to carry on, whilst cutting a bus service for the most vulnerable in our city. On my so called attack on Paul Wilson, he's an hypocrite just as all the other labour councillors in salford are. Paul Wilson like all other councillors are elected by us the electorate and we are their boss, but these councillors treat us with utter-contempt, they think it is beneath them to answer our questions, they have become arrogant and aloof and totally out of step with the people who elected them. Paul Wilson says in his comment to me, that, "Personally I think it's important that the readers of the Salford Star hear how genuine my honest straight talking politics really are". Why has he not come back on to the star and told us his straight talking politics, I'll tell you why he's not been back on, because he can't defend anything this salford labour council have done in the last 20years to the people of salford, he saw my comments and other peoples and bottled it and if he's being sat on by more senior labour councillor about giving anymore comments on here, then quite frankly he's not the man for the job of elected mayor of salford. This job needs someone with a backbone that puts the people of salford first and not the likes of peel holdings or the BBC, the Labour Party or people within it.
Ps. no, I'm not a member of the Labour Party, never have been, Never will be. Mary cunliffe, your not related to Paul Wilson are you. Paul's not had a meltdown because I've asked him some real questions, hey Mary. Tell Paul to come on and answer some real questions or he can keep hiding behind the walls of the town hall and avoid the real public and their concerns, just has Ian Stewart has done over the years. |

| Sorry short of time at the moment, but here goes.
@paul Wilson. Don't avoid the questions, answer some of the questions I've already posed to you, was Ian Stewart right to stop transport for disabled people, whilst propping up salford reds. Is it right that developers get to wave planning fee's. What are you going to do to stop the obvious shady dealing of certain high ranking labour councillors who run the council for there own wealth creation, I'm sorry the only person who can clean up this council of these shady under the table dealings will need to come from outside the Labour Party who hasn't got any allegiance to the party or members of that party. Tell us Paul where are the Tories cutting funds to salford, when you and your party have just rubber stamped the spending of £19million on a RHS garden in the leafy rich suburbs of Worsley £5million going to peel holding in rent for doing there property up. Just heard from an ex council employee who is still in touch with old work colleagues on the gardening side, he says up to 2/3s of the work force are being tuped (privatised) over to citywest and Salix, and parks in salford are going to have flower and shrub beds taken out of them to save money on maintenance, if this is the case, then why are we spending tax payers money on private enterprises whilst vandalising public owned parks. Sorry, salford labour council has a lot to answer for and I can't think of one labour councillor who has got a set of balls or backbone to do what needs to be done to bring back equality to salford. |

I have consistently demonstrated that I am prepared to ask the difficult questions and stand up for what is right for the people of Salford.
As Mayor my remit would be far greater and would give me the opportunity to influence all aspects of what our Council does. I would be the fresh start our city needs and would involve all councillors and the public in decisions.
I'm more than happy to meet Steven Kingston and be interviewed and would hope that all other candidates would do the same. Personally I think it's important that the readers of the Salford Star hear how genuine my honest straight talking politics really are. |

Come on paul answer some of my questions or are you the type of labour politician who likes to be in a room full ardent labour supporters who ask limp wristed safe questions. Better still let Steven Kingston interview you if you've got the bottle, let's see what type of mayor you'll make, are you just going to be another Ian Stewart, promise many things to the ordinary salfordian but deliver nothing of benefit to the people of salford. Remember he promised to be open and democratic, instead behaves like a dictator, but not surprising when so many labour councillors bow before him. Come on Paul, are you your own man, worthy of the title of elected mayor of salford or are you just another puppet of the Labour Party and not fit to hold the high office of elected mayor of salford. |

Your Labour Party is spending or has spent millions on RHS gardens, rugby stadiums, fountains, philharmonic orchestra's, bending on one knee to peel holdings ect, ect,ect. Didn't your co labour councillor Steven hesling vote with other labour councillors to stop an investergation into, what was it £168,000 given to Salford reds under the table, call this being open and democratic, sorry spare me the political speech. Which party whilst paying for the above stopped transport for the most vulnerable in Salford, that's right the Labour Party, ( and where was your opposition to this) which party waves planning fees for developers, because they say this will hit their profits, that's right labour. So tell me Paul Wilson, who's making the cuts in Salford, the Tories, or is the truth, is it the Labour Party . Ps under labour weaste and seedley have been trashed, as has the rest of Salford, the communities that once were, are no longer and I put this down to the labour councillors that now inhabit Salford, self serving parasites. I would have more respect for you and your fellow councillors if you had the balls to stand up for the people of Salford and put our interests first, instead of what you and your cohort do now, putting your own interests first. If you want me to change my view on you and your fellow councillors, then you all need to stand up in council chambers and voice your opposition to what is happening in Salford instead of acting like sheep. I am sick to the back teeth of cllrs defending things like the mis-guided busway that has cost the tax-payer £45Million, with no benefit for bus users or motorists. I am sick to death of Cllrs defending the so called "city mayor" when he spouts total SHIT, do these cllrs not have any Balls????? It appears they don't, my Suggestion would be to not vote for any Cllr that sticks their tongue up Stewarts bum but then that wouldn't leave many "for us" local Labour cllrs would it??????? |

| It is not a Health Check our Salford Council needs it is a Health Warning - they are destroying local services, driving despair across communities plus lacking new ideas. It matters not who they pick as their candidate, they have closed ears. I hate to think our Council Tax is being used to pay them. |
