Graphic, harrowing, hard hitting, humorous and educational is how Salford based Footlights describes its latest touring play And Then You Kissed Me which hits The Studio at The Lowry on 13th and 14th January.
Based on real life accounts from victims of domestic violence, its perpetrators and the authorities which deal with the fall out, the theatre company states that `audiences should expect to leave the theatre feeling empowered and informed and certainly more able to recognise the often hidden signs of domestic violence in others or even in themselves'...
"We hope to make people more aware of the triggers and the consequences of domestic violence through the voices of those most closely affected by it" says Jo Fisher, the play's director and creator "This is a subject that we're often unaware of until situations become untenable. Even then, the authorities are not always set up to deal with the victims or the perpetrators."
The company explains that its aim is to open up the subject and get people talking about it. With Salford's horrendous domestic violence statistics, behind which are people and kids suffering, this drama couldn't be played out at a better time...

The play, which follows Footlights' sell-out success of The Queen Is Dead, at The Lowry in 2014, will also tour to The Met, Bury on Tuesday 12th January, The Citadel, St Helens on Friday 15th January, and there will also be a flash mob performance at Manchester Piccadilly Station on Monday 11th January, where the cast will perform extracts from the play during the evening rush hour.
