As the Tories slink home from their gathering in Manchester, the Climate Change, Time To Act Conference on October 10th will look at how to combat the worst of their energy policies and those of other world leaders - in the run up to the Paris climate summit in December.
Organised by a coalition of groups and individuals including Campaign against Climate Change, Friends of the Earth, Frack Free Greater Manchester, Oxfam, trade unions and others, the Time To Act Conference will address issues like fracking, the undermining of renewable energy policies, airport and road expansions, cutting budgets for home insulation, TTIP and other climate chaos happenings.
"As the need to tackle climate change becomes more urgent, our Government is withdrawing support from wind farms and solar energy and encouraging new fossil fuel production through fracking" state the organisers "Why on earth is it doing that? What will be the effects of new international trade agreements such as TTIP? Can the capitalist system solve climate change?
"Meanwhile thousands of refugees are on the move, fleeing war, persecution and hunger; will climate change force yet more people to become migrants and refugees?" they add "Most importantly, in the run-up to the UN talks on climate change in Paris and beyond, how can we create a mass movement that can force governments to act? These and other questions will be addressed at our conference on October 10th."
The Conference starts at 10am with a short film, and throughout the day there's speakers including Chris Baugh (Deputy Gen Sec PCS), Nick Deardon (Global Justice Now), John Hilary (War On Want), Rachel Thompson (Reclaim The Power) and Kate Pickett (co-author The Spirit Level).
Workshop sessions include: Migration, Racism and Inequality; Energy Policies and the Alternatives; Global Trade, TTIP and Economic Systems; Finance and Divestment Campaigns; and Transport Policies and Alternatives.
The Time To Act Conference will be showing that there are alternatives to austerity and climate change it just needs a bit of people power...

Before the Conference, climate change campaigners will be busy at the Tory Party Conference with a series of actions, including having a bloc at the huge demo on October 4th (meet at Salford Museum and Art Gallery at 11am) and, on Wednesday October 7th, a protest against fracking at noon (Mount Street), followed by a meeting on Climate Justice and Jobs at Friends Meeting House, Mount Street M2 5NS at 4pm.
