Salford's Ethan Evans, despite having his own health problems, has been raising money for charities almost constantly for the last four years, which now totals over £15,000. This week he received official recognition from the city for his efforts with a presentation at Salford Civic Centre of the Mayor's Citizen Award.
Ethan was the first recipient of the Award from the new Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Peter Dobbs, and the certificate states it was presented "In respect of his commitment, dedication and unwavering charity work for his local community; this includes RMCH, Francis House Hospice, St Ann's Hospice, Willow Tree Primary School and also Asthma UK...His encouragement and enthusiasm is an inspiration to everyone who meets him."
And Ethan has not finished yet. His grandfather, Ed Green, told the Salford Star that Ethan insisted that half his pocket money every week was put aside to buy six continental quilts and twelve pillows for Salford's homeless unit on Churchill Way, which will be handed over next month.
Ethan, who overcame his own health problems to become an incredibly promising swimmer (see previous Salford Star article click here), was recently back in hospital but is now recovering and continuing his dual pursuits. The Award is well deserved and now Salford people are doing something for Evan himself.
"When Ethan was in hospital for five weeks I had lots of comments asking why we haven't done anything for Ethan in particular, so I took them on board and on 29th October we're having a fundraiser at the British Legion on Langworthy Road just for him" says Ed "It's so Ethan can buy more equipment and get back to the pool; we'll also give him some sort of treat. This time it's all about Ethan."
