They're calling it the `biggest and best community festival in Salford', and looking at the line-up they're absolutely spot on. Irlam and Cadishead Community Festival, held at Prince's Park on Liverpool Street in Irlam, starts at 9am with a car boot sale and then keeps surprising from 12:30 until 9:30pm.
The day features activities for the whole family including a real ale bar, community stalls, rural crafts, curious critters (with bush-tucker trials), pony rides, kids' activities with The Chat Moss Project and rugby with the Salford Red Devils and the Cadishead Rhinos.
There's also street theatre with Stickleback Plasticus where cats in oversized bins perform Cats' Chorus, a feline opus of comedy, puppetry and song; and Yodel, a weird cross of Alpine culture and circus, including Wolfegang Glochenspiel from Leather-Hosen-Land performing his world famous classical music on bicycle horns while riding on a 2-metre high unicycle. Much stupidity is promised.
Meanwhile, there's live music all day. The Music Stage will see performances from the Irlam Male Voice Choir, The Calamities, The Jess Kemp Band, The Stance, Little Jo and The Misfits and Jeramiah Ferrari; while at the Festival Tea Rooms acts including Wills Watson, Oyster Opera and The Lairds will be on stage. The day ends with a fantastic firework finale at 9pm.

MUSIC STAGE
Irlam Male Voice Choir
Formed in April 1946, the choir is now in its 69th year of music making. The current members are very proud that it is still a flourishing and active group within the local community. Their repertoire is very varied, including popular ballads, songs from the shows, sacred music and even a little pop.

The Calamities
The Calamities are a semi-acoustic trio of local young people comprising Rachel Heyes, Sam Butterworth and Ben Cullen. They play a surprisingly diverse selection of covers and are sure to please.

Jess Kemp/The Jess Kemp Band
Jess will be performing two sets, the first solo and the second, a rare appearance with her brand new band. Jess has recently gained airplay for her debut single, Stars, on BBC Introducing and is set to release an official music video on 4th September.

The Stance
The Stance, from East Manchester, cover songs from a range of different eras and genres, from classic '60s rock 'n' roll and Motown, through to present-day pop.

Five-piece jazz and blues band from Cheshire drawing influences from a wide spectrum of artists such as Billie Holliday, Imelda May, Louis Jordan, Little Walter and T-Bone Walker.

Wills, a native of Colorado, has lived in Warrington for a number of years, and has become well known in Irlam and Cadishead through running jam sessions and his membership of several local bands.

STREET THEATRE
Stickleback Plasticus 'Cats' Chorus'
Using comedy, puppetry, song and improvisation, and from oversized rubbish bins, mischievous cats reflect on their lives, food, and the death of Fat Bob. Will be doing both static and walkabout performances.
Colm O'Grady/Ouch Entertainment 'Yodel'
Contemporary circus meets traditional Alpine culture in a splendid display of stupidity. Yodel is an absurd comedy where Wolfegang Glochenspiel from Leather-Hosen-Land performs his world famous classical music on bicycle horns while riding on a 2-metre high unicycle. Witness a wonderful exposition of traditional leek dancing with a chorus of juggling and listen to the beautiful melodies played by his orchestra of bell ringers.
