Last year, the first ever one-night Irlam Fringe Festival completely sold out as audiences flocked to see top class theatre unavailable previously in the area. This year, the Irlam Fringe is back with a two night run, with six plays selected from over one hundred submissions from all over the globe.
"I had this idea that people in Irlam and Cadishead – a place without any theatre or easy access to theatre – might actually love to see some top class short plays in their home town" says founder, organiser and writer Jane McNulty "Accessible, affordable and professional, the plays I put on would not only entertain but would fire up enthusiasm in people further to experience new writing in non-traditional settings. When the show was a success, I knew I was onto something."
This year's selection of live drama brings pieces of writing from local, national and international writers, ranging from comedy to tragedy, and includes plays about love, ageing and caring. Directors include the Manchester Theatre Award-winning Ian Townsend (All the Bens), Manchester Theatre Award Nominee Lucia Cox (Blackbird and One Hand Clapping), Paul Blinkhorn (JB Shorts) and Megan Marie Griffiths (Contact Compacts). And it's all well affordable at just a fiver to get in...
