Salford City, unrecognisable from last season's team, were already confirmed as champions of the Evo-Stik First Division North before they walloped lowly Ossett Town 5-0 in the final game of the season yesterday.
The team, now playing in red, and backed by the so-called Class of '92 Giggs, Butt, Beckham, Scholes and the Nevilles - won the league after nine straight wins and the collapse of Darlington, who at one time had five games in hand on the league leaders.
A crowd of over 1,000 admitted free on the day saw the team collect the champion's trophy.
