Poll cards issued by Manchester City Council to residents of Kersal and Broughton for the forthcoming elections have had to be binned, after an `error' stating that the cards were for `Election of councillors to Manchester City Council'.
The poll cards were produced and sent out by Manchester City Council for both the upcoming Local and General Elections on May 7th. Broughton and Kersal are both within the Blackley and Broughton constituency, which falls under Manchester's election responsibility - but the wards of Kersal and Broughton are under Salford City Council for local elections.
Similarly, for the Parliamentary election, the count is at Manchester Town Hall but the local election is for Salford City Council and the count is in Salford.
This isn't the first time Manchester Council has been `confused' about city boundaries. A few years ago envelopes were sent out for the election register with return address of `Swinton, Manchester'.
With parts of the city already being re-branded as `University of Salford, Manchester' and `MediaCityUK, Manchester', this latest gaffe just adds more insult to geographical injury.
Last night Harry Davies, the Labour Party candidate for Kersal, wrote to residents via Facebook...
"I am writing to let you know about a printing error which has affected the combined poll cards which were issued to electors who are eligible to vote in both the parliamentary and local elections in the Broughton and Kersal wards of the Blackley and Broughton constituency.
"These poll cards were issued by Manchester as the lead authority for the parliamentary election and stated 'Election of Councillors to Manchester City Council' instead of 'Election of Councillors to Salford City Council'. Replacement poll cards will be issued to all affected electors on different coloured card as soon as possible..."
