Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that over the last four years Salford Council has obtained liability orders on 137 people for non payment of Council Tax for less than £10. And, already this year, 21 people have received such orders.

* Salford Council finally revealed the information after initially rejecting the inquiry from Dutch Antaris (see previous feature). Dutch now says “it appears that it was a smoke screen and that the council is indeed taking people to court for small sums of money. The reason I was aware of this happening is having seen the order being made where the amount outstanding was £0.14”
