Two days ago, Walkden Community set up a GoFundMe page initially for the people of Walkden to raise money for Alan Henning's wife and family. However, with people donating to show their respect from far and wide, the fund has been opened up to everyone.
"If Alan had one wish it would be for his family to be financially secure in the future" says Janet O'Shaughnessy, secretary of Walkden Community "The fund is solely for Alan and Barbara's two children for university fees and driving lessons etc, it is the only official fund set up with the blessing of Alan's wife, Barbara."
In the two days since the fund has been running it's already raised £5,764 and the comments that have gone with some of the donations sum up the feeling in both Salford and the world about Alan Henning's murder...
"Alan Henning was - and is - an inspiration to people all over the world. My thoughts and prayers are with Alan's family. May they find comfort in their good memories of such a wonderful man" Elizabeth Compton
"God Bless you Alan Henning, a truly brave and wonderful human being. The world will never forget you. Your light and smile will shine forever. My deepest condolences to his wife and family and all who loved him." Carole Cottey
"Alan was Britishness at its best, the world recognised his grace and kindness. Compassion, Love and Kindness will win over evil." Chrissie Dyson
"No words can express our thoughts to his family R.I.P. you wonderful man." Norma and Ray Handley
