Salford is in shock tonight as news filters through of the death of Eccles taxi driver Alan Henning at the hands of ISIS, despite pleas from senior Muslim leaders and his family.
Alan Henning travelled to Syria on a humanitarian mission to help deliver medical supplies to Muslims before being kidnapped, held hostage and finally murdered, following the UK Government's decision to join the war against Islamic State.
Tonight, Eccles councillor Peter Wheeler summed up the feeling: "Everyone in Eccles is devastated. Our thoughts are with his family, it must be terrible for them."
A few weeks ago, people who knew Alan Henning told the Salford Star what kind of man he was...
"He is an outgoing lad, funny, you could have a laugh with him...."
"He is a total family man and was doing something he believed in, delivering aid to Syrian refugees..."
Tonight Salford is in mourning...
