HAZEL BLEARS MUST GO

Two events have been organised by the Hazel Must Go! Campaign at very short notice, and both are being supported by the Salford Star.

HAZEL MUST GO! Demonstration outside Salford Civic Centre in Swinton 6pm Thursday June 18th

HAZEL MUST GO! Petition Signing – Salford Precinct (near Tesco’s)
10am-12noon Thursday June 18th

This Thursday night (June 18th ) Hazel Blears faces a vote of no confidence from branches of Salford’s Labour Party. 44 representatives will decide whether she gets de-selected as a candidate at next year’s General Election.

They have to decide whether the blatant timing of her resignation from the Cabinet harmed the party’s vote at the Euro elections allowing the BNP to sneak in and get a North West seat…they have to decide whether the knife in Gordon Brown’s back was just a step too far…But more importantly they have to decide whether Hazel Blears can ever be elected again in Salford, in light of the expenses scandal. Is she now a liability, given that every single poll in Salford shows thousands and thousands of people turning against her?

If they decide to keep Hazel there will be an independent candidate standing against her, which will ultimately split the vote, and may allow the Tories to get elected in Salford for the first time in donkeys years.

So to help the 44 make up their minds, the Hazel Must Go! Campaign has called a demonstration outside the Salford Civic Centre in Swinton for 6pm. It’s not aligned to any political party and everyone and anyone in Salford is urged to attend – bring your own placards and banners, the national press will be there.

Also on Thursday morning (June 18th) there will be a petition signing event on Salford Precinct (near Tescos) between 10am and 12 noon.

Plus, anyone can send an e-mail and support the Hazel Must Go! Campaign… blearsmustgo@gmail.com

Blears must go . We need someone to represent this dump Salford who has the interests of the people of Salford at heart .This excludes this disastrous Labour council who support Blears . The Cons and Libs also do nothing for the people of Salford , and are also excluded . Any suggestions ?

I sent her a 20 page fax about a convicted criminal with a sexual offence on his record working for Social Services and bringing mentally and physically handicapped BOYS (BOYS ONLY) back to his flat at least 3 times a week, when other men would visit, before taking them swimming. If she wants to argue about this situation, 2 good police officers took away his camera and computer and he lost his job 5 years later; then they built a school across the road and HE had to be moved after an incident, but not charged with anything!!! he has friends in high places.

No surprise... Whoever said 'Labour is supposed to be the party of the working classes' needs a reality check - they haven't been for quite some time. They are plainly a Thatcherite party, just like the Tories and Lib Dems. Ditch Labour, and join a real socialist party - and if you can't find one that hasn't got it's head up it's own jacksie, FORM ONE!

Well see they have taken no notice of the people of salford,AGAIN. Just hope people don't forget what has come to light in the last couple of weeks when the elections come about. if she has a look in her in tray at her office and if she desided to answer all the letters she won't have time to get out and about in Salford because i would say she must have about 4/5 years of letters from the residents of this city she has never responded to. So Hazel lets see what you are going to do for the residenst of this fine City in the next 12 months. You have some catching up because you haven't done anything for the last 4/5 years.

Hopefully tonight is the night that Hazel Blears disappears into the wilderness! In the meantime, I thought that you might find this amusing: http://grumpyoldtwat.blogspot.com/2009/05/morphing-hazel-blears.html

Is that the same Richard Carvath that thinks teachers who teach sex education are "grooming kids for anal abuse" that homosexuals are perverts that need healing or locking up, that programs like sex in the city or papers like the sun are pornographic and should be banned? Some other choice comments of his political statements are that Islam is an evil religion, women shouldn't be allowed to be in the police and called some students who posed for a WI type calender "prostitutes" ??

Those with the power to oust Ms Blears may like to reflect that the amount of £13000 she owed on the profit she has made on her second home, was in fact far more than the compensation salfordians whose interests she is suppossed to have at heart received for their homes in Langworthy. They were forced out of course to make way for the publicy funded for private profit Urban Splash disaster that is Chimney Pot park. A development that she herself proudly declared was crucial in brokering by bringing Mr Bloxham to langworthy and giving his company an open cheque book and blank canvas. That in itself is ignominy and reason enough to be booted as far away from power as possible.

Ultimately her fate will be decided by the people of Salford be it tomorrow when the members of her constituency Labour Party meet in secret to vote on the motion of no-confidence or at the next general election. If she does survive the vote is remains amendment she shall not step down unless voted out will Salford Star join the campaign to for an immediate general election? Salford Youth Council have "You-Tubed" (because we wanted to!) our own creative take on the subject in a tribute music video we've posted on our website. We've also written an open letter to her asking what her future plans are as she intends to "return to the grass roots". But where is she? http://www.salfordyouth.org.uk Some of our members might join you at the protest tomorrow and we might make a short film about it if that's okay. Keep up the good work comrades at SS!

There already is an Independent candidate who has publicly declared his candidacy for Salford and Eccles at the next General Election... what chance of a mention by name in the politically neutral Salford Star?

SALFORD STAR – 15 YEARS OF ATTITUDE AND LOVE XXX

The Salford Star closes tonight after 15 years of giving the community a voice, holding power to account and bigging up all the great things that have happened in the city.

Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication.

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE: HOW SALFORD COUNCIL TRIED TO BLOCK AND DISCREDIT THE STAR

Star date: 17th May 2021

THREATS, LIES, FEAR AND LOATHING IN SALFORD...

Today, the Salford Star shuts down but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. Here the Salford Star editor, Stephen Kingston, looks at how democracy perished badly under the Salford mayoral system.

A WHIFF OF FREEDOM AS RESTRICTIONS ARE EASED

Salford has 7 new coronavirus cases, down from the previous day's 14, while the seven day rate per 100,000 population now stands at 30.1, down from 30.9. There have been no new virus-related deaths announced by Salford Royal Hospital.

Today sees restrictions eased and the first whiff of freedom in over a year. It's also the final coronavirus bulletin from the Salford Star which is closing. Here we look back over 14 months of the pandemic and the absolute communication failings of Salford City Council and its City Mayor.

We are almost at the final closure of the Salford Star but we write this article as a warning to others who may follow on the pitfalls of founding a genuine publication that aims to give the community a voice and hold public bodies up to account.

They will try to discredit you, block information and shut you down. In South America they just blow up the offices of journalists that don't play the game. Here they just financially assassinate you...

SALFORD STAR CLOSURE – GUY GRIFFITHS ON THE HUMAN COST OF PATHFINDER DEMOLITIONS

Star date: 16th May 2021

THE HUMAN COST OF REGENERATION

The Griffiths brothers of Higher Broughton are kind of infamous as the only people to be forcefully evicted from their house as part of the Pathfinder 'housing market renewal' project during the first decade of the 21st Century.

Here, Guy Griffiths, now living in 'sunny' north Wales and one of the main inspirations for the Salford Star's creation, writes the second part his own personal view of the Government project that devastated communities throughout Central Salford.
