HAZEL MUST GO! CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

ON YER BIKE HAZEL...

HAZEL MUST GO! CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

Star Date: 13th June 2009

Today a new campaign is launched calling for Hazel Blears to stand down from being MP for Salford...

HAZEL MUST GO!

The campaign is not aligned to any political party and has been born from the anger and frustration many of Hazel Blears’ constituents are feeling in the light of the scandals that have surrounded our representative over the last few weeks.

On Friday 12th June Hazel apologised for her actions which she herself has deemed to be “stupid” - but then reiterated that she intends to stand at next year’s General Election.  The Hazel Must Go! campaign is calling for her to stand down, right here, right now…

Over the coming weeks, residents’ associations, trade unions, community organisations, workers and residents will be asked to back the campaign.

The Salford Star, the city’s community magazine - which has been waiting over six months for `our MP’ to reply to a letter regarding `empowerment funding’ - has agreed to be the first organisation to back the campaign.  Over the coming weeks we’re hoping that many more will follow.

LETTER TO SALFORD'S COMMUNITY

Hazel Blears Must Go!

Over the last few weeks Hazel Blears has shown that she is no longer fit to represent the people of Salford.

In the wake of extravagant expenses claims and avoidance of Capital Gains Tax we believe that she has abused the system, which we find morally and ethically disgusting.

Hazel Blears resigned from the Cabinet (in the most undignified way) but she is still our MP and says that she intends standing at next year’s General Election.

It is down to us, her constituents, to make our feelings known and force her to resign as MP for Salford. Right here. Right now!

We would like trade union branches, residents and community groups and individuals to join our campaign - Hazel Must Go!

Together we can demand justice for the people of Salford.

To add your name to the campaign please contact us at blearsmustgo@gmail.com

Ode to Blears. Dear old Hazel, dear old Hazel, riding through the glen, Dear old Hazel, dear old Hazel, with her Merry Man, Steal from the Poor, and give to the Rich, Let us down, let us down, let us down. (Tune: Robin Hood)

I also agree with Hilda. We must unseat these useless MPs. Kerry McCarthy (Labour Bristol) is another MP that has made the most out of the her expenses without doing her best for Bristol.

I did not know the people of Salfords anger until recently. Hazel Blears is one of the finest politicans of arrogance. What she did to ordinary tax paying people was 'lower than a snakes belly'she did not oppose the Capalist thinking politicans who were very near her, but rather obviously she robbed innocent people. She will have to go at some time. As the old saying goes, there's no peace fo the wicked!

I'm not from Salford, But I still want her out- after last night’s Panarama’s showing she needs to be out of work not just out of a politician’s position. What a horrible ignorant woman. I’m afraid if she hummed at me I’d dedicate some time to making sure everyone knew what a fake she really is. Ian Stoke-On-Trent

The only way to have a reasonable chance of removing Hazel Blears is to put up an "Independent Labour" candidate, one who will undertake to follow the local labour party policies but without taking the local labour whip. The people of Salford have shown for years they want to vote for labour party policies, and that is what they will do even though the vast majority dont want Hazel Blears.

The jacqui smith must go now campaign has begun talking to other campaign groups and are trying to arrange a meeting to discuss the best way forward. some groups have already decided to put up an independent candidate from the local community while others continue to petition against the local mp. MPs who have been exposed for milking the expenses should stand down and by workind together across the country we are more likely to see this happen.

Julie Columbine - just read yr. message! Very Good! But this not a sexist-orientated witch-hunt! Cos we're gunnin' for John Merry too - once Hazel "Blairbabe" Blears has packed up here and gone back to her "home" in LONDON!!! Nice adage - here's another one for u - "There's a rat in the house!!!" - Reservoir Dogs. Are u on my trax ? So, please, pretty please with sugar on top stick to the script and carry on with your accountin' - Hazel must go!!!

I,ve never seen anybody shilly-shally so much as this person!!! She apparently signed and endorsed a political Bill to close down the Baby Unit at Salford Royal/Hope Hospital and then, when shed discovered her act was so unpopular - she joined the nurses in the picket line that protested against the closure!!! She sported a "Rockin' the Boat" badge on the eve of the local elections and openly condemned Gordon Brown - then again, when she realised it was an unpopular act - she denied having anything to do with a Labour revolt from within the party! Then, thankfully, she resigned her cabinet ministerial role (joke!)> - but, unfortunately, she's clingin' on to her council position - despite the overwhelming masses who desperately want her to go!!! I detest and loathe her!!!

Salford deserves better than Blears. Our shameless MP has been involved in activities that would be classed as criminal in any other profession. She has fraudulently manipulated rules for personal benefit, to escape tax and to claim taxpayers money to fund her own lifestyle. She was equally unscrupulous in her roles in Government. She joined demonstrators outside Hope Hospital and claimed she opposed the closure of maternity units, then voted for closures in Cabinet. She claimed to oppose local post office closures, then supported them in cabinet. She voted for the illegal War in Iraq and has blood on her hands. Some have claimed she will continue as an MP because people will foolishly continue to vote Labour whoever wears their rosette. The Euro elections prove that is not necessarily true and she can be beaten. For the sake of justice and truth, She must go. Tim Perkins

Only the people of Salford can decide whether Hazel Blears is fit to represent us, however, should she represent us, what would Salford be known as, it would be shameful to let the face, reputation and beauty that Salford represents, with a pure and melevolant evil (Although, i do find her face a bit evil as well in reality, i wish someone could remind me, how did she get voted in?) With the limited amount of power we have, all i can say is, "To the voting". P.s - Where can i get some mass marketed badges with "rocking the boat"?.

If hazel blears resigns I will probably continue to vote Labour. If she does not resign, I will certainly vote for someone else.

I beg to differ. Like the rest of the country, I have been dismayed and appalled by the greed and dishonesty of MPs in claiming their expenses but the targeting of Hazel Blears is curious when male colleagues who made exactly the same choices have been barely mentioned. In the case of Blears, I have been a chartered accountant for over twenty years and have never yet met anyone who has voluntarily paid more tax than is legally due, however flawed the rules are. This cannot be compared to the obscenity of claiming for duck houses, moats and charitable donations. It is even more unfortunate that, as one of the few MPs who have tried to redress the situation, the media has chosen to use it as further ammunition in their campaign against her. I have no political affiliations or vested interest in defending any of these people but I can say from first hand experience that Hazel Blears is an incredibly good constituency MP who works really hard for the people of Salford. There are many, many issues which I would like to raise with the Labour party as a whole but this campaign just smacks of a politically motivated witch-hunt. I would advise people of the old adage, 'be careful what you wish for'.

Really good to see interesting comments on this. I'm involved in the campaign and to answer Simon's question, we've bought hazelmustgo.com and if anyone is any good at web design gives us a email on the email address - blearsmustgo@gmail.com. A few of us already involved intend to get a meeting together in the next few weeks and it's great that there's so much support already. We'll be out on the precinct on Sunday from 11-1 doing a stall near Woolworth's (or atleast where it was before it closed) so if anyone fancies coming down and having a chat feel free. We'll also put up details about the meeting when we have em.

I want Hazel Blears out as much as anyone for the shameful waay she has behaved over her own expenses, in common with many other MPs of all parties and Labourt MPs and Cabinet Ministers too. But most of all I want her out for her policies and the ones she has supported in government - illegal wars, privatisation, punitive welfare reforms that are more like workfare,no support for real working class communities creating divisions and resentments leading to opening up a route for the racist BNP and so on and so on. She has been part of the Labour government's love affair with deregulation and market fundamentalism which has threatened all of us and our families jobs, homes and security for years. I think she is unprincipled and lacks integrity and judgement and I am not swayed by her crocodile teras and pretend regreats, as they only come now to save her own well feathered nest. But 'it's about the policies stupid' (to adapt Bill Clinton's phrase) not just about changing the vacuous, self serving personalities in the cabinet. I have not truck with any of them and am not impressed with minsiters like Alan Johnston, and left wingers like John Cruddas supporting james Purnell. He was accused of expenses irregularities and living well of all of us while presiding over the most horredenous welfare to workfare reforms going through parliament which will have a terrible effect on the lives of those in Salford and all over the country who lose their jobs because of the Labour government deregulated the finacial sector, were 'intensley relaxed' about the super rich, and helepd to create the recession we are now suffering. We need a massive zero carbon house building and retrofitting programme, an end to privatisations of all types, which merely shovels our money into business pockets, decent welfare benefits and help for those who need it not punsihment, no to ID cards, no to trident and a government which puts the needs of the many above the greed of the few. Hilda

If the Salford Labour Party reselect her then there is nothing that can be done. The people of Salford will vote Labour regardless of who the candidate is. She may have a slightly reduced majority but that is about all. She is facing a vote of no-confidence next week by her C L P and you can bet a pound to a penny that the vote will be defeated. It would serve the Labour party right if she stood and the voters turned to a fringe party as there is no way they would vote conservative. As Oliver Cromwell said "In the name of God....Go"
