A Salford Star Exclusive

NO BUSINESS RATES PAID YET BY BBC AT MEDIACITYUK

Despite making its first programme over a year ago at its new MediaCityUK Salford studios, the BBC has not paid a penny in business rates yet, the Salford Star can reveal.

Full story here…

Following a Freedom of Information request, the Salford Star can reveal that the BBC has not paid any business rates yet for its new base at MediaCityUK.

The BBC made its first programme at the site last February and the move north is set to be complete in April this year. In reply to the Freedom of Information request, Peter Salmon, Director of BBC North stated… "The BBC occupied MediaCityUK premises have yet to be assessed and therefore no rates are as yet payable".

According to the Government's Valuation Office, the BBC Studios alone have a rateable value of £2.66million, which would (according to our calculations) make the business rates bill over £1million.

The business rates are calculated and collected by Salford Council but then go into a national government pool before being re-distributed around the country. The Local Government and Finance Bill, currently going through Parliament, will allow local authorities to retain business rates from 2013-14.

The Freedom of Information response added that "BBC North will not be fully operational until April 2012, when the last of the departments currently scheduled to move to MediaCityUK will be in place".

The letter was signed by Peter Salmon, Director BBC North. Unfortunately, the address at the top of the letter is given as White City, Wood Lane, London…

Disgraceful . Perhaps one of the Pocket - politicians up at the Madhouse would care to comment , preferably one of the Clowns trying to crawl into the mayoral role . Perhaps they would care to wake up a slumbering 'BBC Rates Assessment Officer' to find out what the hell is going on .But hold a 'secret bullshit meeting' first to dream up a suitable excuse . The Inept Cretins would soon be chasing an Inmate of this Deadcity for clouncil tax arrears , different rules must apply for Rich Corporate Chums .

DREW POVEY ACCUSES SALFORD COUNCIL OF 'HEAVY HANDED' 'VENDETTA'

"I'm speaking up for myself but also all the leaders who have been in touch to say the same happened to them #TakeAStand..." Drew Povey

Drew Povey, the Executive Head of Harrop Fold in Little Hulton, has resigned from his post, slamming Salford Council's "heavy handed approach" while investigating 'administrative errors' at the school and accusing it of a "personal vendetta".

In an open letter to the school's governors, Drew Povey writes that he refuses to walk away from the school with a settlement and accept a gagging clause.  So he's gone public...to #TakeAStand.
