The ultimate Christmas present this year is a virtual reality set but it's also set at an ultimately out of pocket price. Instead, Future Artists is offering Oculus Virtual Reality and Playstation VR experiences as part of its Arcade Club on Tour.
It's a pop-up arcade of both virtual reality and a selection of over fifty retro games including tabletop versions of Space Invaders, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Robotron, Galaxian and loads more*. There's also imported home entertainment games consoles from Japan and handheld video games like Gameboy.
The new pop-up arcade follows on from the massive success of Ready Player 1 - The History of Video Games that took place this summer at Future Artists Studios. Now it's moved across the lane to the Future Artists space that was the Home of Honest Coffee.
That cafe shut recently, after redevelopment of the locality killed off any chance of passing customers, as businesses and car parks in the area closed (for details see previous Salford Star article click here)
"We set out at Honest Coffee to create a workspace to support creativity" explains Mark Ashmore of Future Artists "Little did we know at the time that the space would be the launch pad for an in-house project that we had been working on for two years - the concept of what a virtual reality arcade would look like as this new entertainment medium matured
"So when Home of Honest Coffee started to fail because of the regeneration in the area, we didn't have to look too far for a project that would not only fulfil the remit of the space, to support a creative idea, but hopefully the VR Arcade will work and ultimately save the Home of Honest Coffee idea ready for re-launch in 2017" he adds "But for now we are into the unknown once again, bringing a new dimension to Salford, via a pop up virtual reality and retro arcade. I hope people come out and have fun, experience VR and help us push things forward."
