This weekend, amongst all the Sounds From The Other City gigs in pubs, clubs and churches along Chapel St, the Salford Music Cooperative hosts its first event.

The free gig, at the Rovers Return near Blackfriars Bridge, features John Herring, Death To The Strange, Sandbox, The Black Knights and Kingfishers Catch Fire…

Sounds From The Other City

This Sunday sees the return of Sounds From The Other City – a 12 hour delicatessen of new music set in Salford's pubs, clubs, churches and community centres dotted around the Crescent and Chapel Street.

At the Rovers Return the Salford Music Cooperative - which aims to unite, promote and support Salford's musicians – is hosting a free seven hour event featuring the city's up and coming bands and singers. It's well worth supporting and it's free.

Elsewhere, there's gigs at Islington Mill, The Kings Arms, St Philips Church, The Angel Centre, The Old Pint Pot, The Crescent, The New Oxford and The Black Lion. There's way too much going on to list it all but click here for full details…

PROTEST AT JOHN WILKINSON CENTRE IN SALFORD OVER LINKS WITH JASIC

This morning, trade unionists staged a protest at John Wilkinson's Wilkinson Star HQ at the Wardley Industrial Estate over the company's links with Jasic Technology Ltd in Shenzhen, China.

The company which makes welding equipment, distributed in the UK by Wilkinson Star, is accused of violent repression of its workers who have tried to form an independent trade union.

On 6th October there's to be a special gig at the Moston Miners Centre to raise funds for Red Saunders' Hidden Project, which is re-creating the Peterloo Massacre in photo tableaus. Starring on the night will be Claire Mooney, Matt Hill, Free Radicals and Tony Harper,.

RHYL TO SALFORD WALK FOR CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY

When three close friends of Daniel Hobbs took their own lives, he and others decided to do something about it, and have now organised a sixty mile walk from Rhyl to Salford to raise money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably, which is leading a movement against suicide in young men.
