SALFORD MP SHOULD BE DESELECTED AFTER KEEPING TORIES IN POWER SAYS CONSTITUENT
|
Star date: 19th July 2018 CALLS FOR GRAHAM STRINGER TO BE DESELECTED FOR 'TREACHERY' On Tuesday night, Blackley and Broughton MP, Graham Stringer, was one of four Labour Party MPs who voted with the Tories on the latest Brexit proposals, allowing Theresa May to scrape to victory by three votes and avert a possible General Election. Here, a constituent of the Salford MP and Labour Party member, gives her personal opinion, joining the call for Graham Stringer to be deselected... Full details here...
|
|
My MP Has Let Me Down... I live in Kersal, which is part of the Blackley and Broughton constituency of the Labour Party's Graham Stringer, and am using the Salford Star to express my extreme disappointment with my MP. On Tuesday night, he joined the ranks of the Tories to help Theresa May win a vote on her latest ideas on Brexit. Together with three other Labour MPs, he ignored the advice of his leader and the Whip, and filed behind the Tories to cast a vote supporting them. The Government won by three votes only, so these four MPs were responsible for a treacherous act. This was in spite of the warning given out by the Conservative Chief Whip, who announced that, if there was a defeat, he would feel obliged to call a Vote of Confidence (no confidence) in the Prime Minister. Had she probably lost, this would inevitably have led to a call for a General Election, and the chance of a left-leaning Labour Government. I dream of what this would have meant for our NHS, for our schools, our social welfare and our housing crisis. How could my MP be so ignorant of the consequences? There are now calls in the Labour Party for Graham Stringer to be deselected as our MP. As it happens, I had come to the conclusion, prior to this act, that he had passed his sell-by-date. He rarely visits Kersal and I wonder if he knows where it is! His charisma is nil and his ability to communicate with his constituents is very poor. So I don't care if he is deselected. I had little faith in him previously and now I have none. A new MP would be welcome...
Words by Alice Searle are her personal opinions are not endorsed by the Salford Star which remains neutral in such matters. If Graham Stringer would like to respond please get in touch...

Robert Ward,I'm genuinely interested iñ what
"a hard Brexìt" would mean for Salford? Would it
solve the housing crisis, end austerity or free the
economy from the stranglehold of the bankers?

@ Alice. You could say that about almost any democratic election, anywhere. How many times have people been sucked in by political bullshittery over the years? Should we re-run last year's general election because someone somewhere doesn't believe the people got 'the facts' according to them? The votes were cast and a decision was made, we just have to get on with it whether you, I or anyone else disagrees or not. |

As the Voice of Reason to the Salford Star's comment page and as a very vocal supporter of Salford Labour and our beloved Mayor, Paul; all that I can say is that Ray of Sunshine has hit the nail on the head. Graham Stringer, in my opinion is a class traitor. By voting with this wicked Tory Government he has shown, to ALL reasonable thinking men and women, that he is NOT of the Labour Party. He should toe the party line and do AS he is told. Showing such contempt for Jeremy in such an outrageously craven way and at such an inopportune time is the worst type of betrayal. I, as a Labour supporter, feel both disgust and dismay in equal measure. He is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. They should begin proceedings to deselect him at once.
As Ray so rightly said, the man is nothing but a "Useful Idiot" to these people who have done everything that they can to punish the citizens of Salford via its beloved Labour Labour Council with cuts of two hundred million pounds. Stringer is a DISGRACE!!! |

Labour is led by a man who has voted against his own party's line over 600 times in his parliamentary career. But when someone else wants to vote with their own conscience and beliefs they're considered a traitor and deemed suitable foe deselection . One law for the few another for the many . The hyprocisy is obvious. |

Well, I guess his replacement would be selected solely by sex or race, and not on merit, so don't expect too much.

Even if a vote of no confidence happens, Theresa May wouldn’t have lost as the Tories don’t have a suitable successor or anyone willing to put their name against the disaster that will be Brexit. Instead, it would have safeguarded her for a further 12 months one she won the vote, and no general election. |

Stringer is a very devious character. I knew him when he was living in a council house on the dole. He has never done a day's honest work in his life. He is not to be trusted with anything. I hope the Labour Party does de-select him. He is a betraying traitor to his party leader and his party.

I voted Brexit. If the tossers in parliament can't get it right, lets have a general election. I can't be arsed with one of these, but bring it on. Should be a bit of fun and games in there. I can see that fat clown johnson getting the boot. he is in enough trouble with his constituents already with the heathrow nonsense. The new boss of UKIP was on Newsnight last night, at least he seems to know how it should be done. |

Curious, what is Stringer up to? Is it really about
Brexìt or preventing Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister?
From what I know, most Brexit supporting Labour Mps accept the need fòr Britain being in a customs union after leaving the E.U in 2019.
Stringer has got form - in the 1980's and '90's,
whilst being leader of Manchester City Council,he implemented Tory Cuts and the Poll Tax without batting an eye ! |

I don't want to start up a big debate but feel a need to say this very very last thing. No more I promise. Firstly, I do believe in democracy, but before people vote they should be given the full facts so they are clear about what they are voting for. This was not the case with the referendum. The information was sparse and some of it untrue. Many people voted in ignorance of the complex nature of our various interlocking connections. This 'innoncent ignorance' determined their vote. Therefore, I don't feel it was democratic. Some folk may have voted on a prejudiced view of foreigners, others on a patriotic stance and others on the untruth poured our by part of the media. There was little clarity. Now the complexity is revealed and has left us with confusion and uncertainty.
No more on Mr Stringer. I guess he will have more critics than me. |

Graham Stringer did the right thing. The issue of the day is Brexit and as a prominent brexiter he wants to see the process through to as satisfactory a result as can be achieved for the national interest. All Labour are doing is using Brexit for their own narrow political interest to force an election. In one of the most important points in our recent history they have gone missing. They simply intend to use brexit as a stick to beat the Tories and don't care about the outcome. And how can a man like Stringer who was honest about his Brexit stance take his lead from someone like Corbyn who patently wasn't. Corbyn is a fraudster. |

Words and music by Alice Searle. I like Alice and agree generally with her sentiment. Stringer is well past his sell by date. We've heard this tune before. Shame the Labour party is unable to provide credible leadership and clear out the political dead wood. I know young people want a revolution but the old man in the geography teacher's outfit isn't fit to lead your party, nevermind the country. It's a shame the lib Dems are no longer turning up. If ever there was a need for a credible third party, it is today. Stringer should be ashamed of himself. Brexit borne out of some jingoistic national nostalgia for a time that has been and gone. Financial ruin for a generation or two to follow. Alice Searle for MP. |

Alice Searle is obviously against democracy and is desperate for this country to stay in the EU when the majority in a democratic referendum voted Leave. Her MP is actually pro democracy and wants to see the will of the people including it has to be said the majority of his constituents carried out and perhaps if her beloved Labour Party supported the so called”Hard” Brexit which it should along with other parties then maybe he would not have voted with the Tories.ALL MPs of ALL parties should in my opinion accept Brexit and endorse it,and a so called”Hard”Brexit where we Leave the EU in full and cleanly and if they don’t they are against the people and democracy....just like Alice Searle is |
