SALFORD AND GREEN TRUTH

ALBION GREEN PROTEST

This image is taken from an ill fated Salford City Council promo book called CAN YOU HANDLE THE TRUTH? IN SALFORD. The section is all about The Great Outdoors… "take the opportunity to pack a picnic, put on your walking boots and explore some of this green and pleasant land".

Not near Albion Green, opposite the former Poets Streets, of course. Because Salford Council want to give developers ID/Miller Homes permission to rip up the Green and build eight houses on it.  Salford people now have until 5th October to object to the plans and protect this tiny green space…

Following our story last week, Albion Residents and Tenants Association is now calling on everyone in Salford to object to the Council's mad plans to hand over Albion Green to developers.

"We urge you to join with us in preserving this tiny oasis of free space and fresh air for our, your and future generations"

Any objections to these plans must be made before 5th OCTOBER 2009 quoting the reference number: 09/58040/FUL

Lots of grass in Salford? Not if the developers have their way…
What are they smoking?

This problem seems to be epidemic in Labour safe seats. Here in Hulme, Manchester the residents have been fighting a long running battle with the council over the development on Birley Fields. Initially the council were developing part of the site as a science park. Over 10 years later some of those offices are still empty. Now they want to build a campus on the peoples wood. There is plenty of brown field site available.

When I started reading this article I had a certain comment in mind... but when I got to the end of the article I noted that the Salford Star had already beaten me to it!

TENSION, 'BULLYING' AND POLITICAL DOG FIGHTING IN LOCAL ELECTION CONTEST

While the local election campaigns around Salford are pretty mild at the moment, in the Claremont ward it's all kicking off, with the LibDem candidate, Stef Lorenz, accusing Labour Party supporters of 'bullying', and the authorities of complicity.

Stef has been blocked from putting up posters in the local Height Library for a jumble sale and art auction in aid of restoring the old Height Youth Club, been forced to stand down as chair of that campaign and has been met with a volley of political abuse on social media. What's going on?
