Following in the hoof steps of Labour Party MPs Ed Balls, Andy Burnham et al who graced the Moor Lane pitch a few weeks ago (see here), stars of Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale will take to the hallowed Salford City FC turf next Sunday as part of a charity family fun day to raise money for St Ann's Hospice.

Also in the team are Ralf Little (Royle Family, Two Pints etc) and ex pros Michael Gray (Sunderland, Wolves etc) and Chris Makin (Sunderland, Radcliffe Borough etc). They will line up against a team from law firm Cobbetts which is hosting the day.

Before the match, which kicks off at 1pm, there will be entertainment including stalls, a mega slide, bouncy castle and face painting.

"We think it is important to be close to our community here in Manchester [sic] and give something back" says Paul Johnson, head of Cobbetts' Manchester office "The match is a really fun way of doing that and we are delighted to be getting some really big names involved. We will be encouraging staff, clients and members of the public to come and show their support for this fantastic cause."

Joel Oxberry, corporate fundraiser at St Ann's Hospice, adds "We have worked with Cobbetts for a number of years and are extremely grateful for their continued support. The funds raised at the event will go towards helping our patients and their families receive the highest quality care."

COUNCIL BLOCKS FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST ON £4,000 MIPIM TRIP

Salford City Council has refused to answer a Salford Star Freedom of Information request on which private company paid the £4,022 costs for City Mayor Paul Dennett and two staff to go to the South of France for the MIPIM property event.

The Council states that "the commercial interests of the Council outweigh that of the public interest in disclosure". The Salford Star is to appeal the decision.

The other results of the survey by UNISON to coincide with its local government conference make equally depressing reading, as the union states that "Vital local services in the North West are collapsing".

Caring for a loved one is indeed a labour of love but it can also be life consuming and draining. So a group called Time Out For Carers is making a difference, running weekly sessions where escapism is the order of the day.

There's free massages, trips out, advice on allowances, tea and coffee and cakes, but, most importantly, relaxed informal chats with carers who are all in the same position.
