STUFF THE JUBILEE IN SALFORD – Part 3

As the Summer of Bread and Circuses gets under way, The Black Lion pub on Chapel Street is going all out ironic for the Jubilee with a free People's Street Party out front of the pub plus loads going on inside. Details are still being finalised but there will be a BBQ, live music, DJs and the snug will be turned into Conspiracy Corner serving lizard cakes, a reference to David Icke and his theories we believe.

Every hour the National Anthem will be played, followed by the Sex Pistols' God Save The Queen… `She ain't no human being/There is no future/In England's dreaming etc…'

"The ConDem government might have killed the high street as shoppers and consumers party over a four day weekend, but they have finally given the humble publican something to get excited about" says the Black Lion's Mark Ashmore "As highways agencies and councils create a street party grey area, we at the Black Lion are looking forward to cashing in on the Queen - you can't cash in on the Euro that's for sure!"

A day at the Black Lion getting hammered and listening to Johnny Rotten et al singing No Future sounds ace – but what to wear? The obligatory anti-Jubilee badge this year is the new Stuff The Jubilee: No Cuts badge produced by the Coalition of Resistance (£1 – click here)… it's an update on the original Stuff The Jubilee badge from back in the day.

And there's a lovely range of t-shirts produced by Red Molotov featuring an update on the famous Jamie Reid God Save The Queen Sex Pistols image – this time showing the Queen as a skull with the slogans Off With Her Head and Vive La Republique (from £14.99 click here). Certainly makes a change from the union jack bowler hat…

TENSION, 'BULLYING' AND POLITICAL DOG FIGHTING IN LOCAL ELECTION CONTEST

While the local election campaigns around Salford are pretty mild at the moment, in the Claremont ward it's all kicking off, with the LibDem candidate, Stef Lorenz, accusing Labour Party supporters of 'bullying', and the authorities of complicity.

Stef has been blocked from putting up posters in the local Height Library for a jumble sale and art auction in aid of restoring the old Height Youth Club, been forced to stand down as chair of that campaign and has been met with a volley of political abuse on social media. What's going on?
