Take it all back to the Hacienda, Madchester and beyond and there was Ian Tilton, snapping iconic photos of The Smiths, James, The Stone Roses, Ruthless Rap Assassins et al. His portfolio is a who's who of Manchester and Salford over the last few decades, with added Kurt Cobain and a load of world famous musos.
Tilts had definitely got a story to tell, so his Q and A session at The Black Lion on 20th March should be well worth a visit. He'll also be showing never published photos of Oasis, The Smiths and Tony Wilson, who banned Ian Tilton from taking any further photos of him, if our memory serves us right… something to do with a frog? Ask him on the night!
Before Ian takes the stage, discussing music, fashion and documentary reportage photography, there's a screening of a documentary on Bill Cunningham, the New York snapper credited with inventing `street photography'.
Should be a top night…
