All month, clubs and societies have been planning Big T Break events which this year are helping the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital to create a garden in its grounds, a calm and relaxing place for families and poorly children to enjoy.

As part of The Big T Break events, in Salford there's an arts morning at The Anchor, St Paul's Court, off Bury New Road, where the Arts and Crafts Club will be selling cards, jewellery, decorated vases and other items, together with refreshments including cheese on toast, jam and scones, teas and coffees.

The residents at St Paul's range in age from 55 to over 90 and last year's event raised £600 for the North West's Air Ambulance. This year it's more down to earth with a children's garden to build.

TENSION, 'BULLYING' AND POLITICAL DOG FIGHTING IN LOCAL ELECTION CONTEST

While the local election campaigns around Salford are pretty mild at the moment, in the Claremont ward it's all kicking off, with the LibDem candidate, Stef Lorenz, accusing Labour Party supporters of 'bullying', and the authorities of complicity.

Stef has been blocked from putting up posters in the local Height Library for a jumble sale and art auction in aid of restoring the old Height Youth Club, been forced to stand down as chair of that campaign and has been met with a volley of political abuse on social media. What's going on?

NEW SALFORD ‘CLEAN’ COMEDY NIGHT HUGE SUCCESS IN IRLAMS O’ TH’ HEIGHT

Star date: 22nd April 2018

CAN 'CLEAN' COMEDY WORK IN SALFORD? ABSOLUTELY!

This week saw a trial 'clean comedy' night at The Vine Cafe in Irlams O' Th' Height, with five comics wowing the sold out venue, and not a swear word or lewd reference in earshot...

"It had to be right kind of acts" explained organiser Sally Griffiths, as the mix of new performers and professionals pulled off the clean comedy night with aplomb (ooh, er, missus...).
