SALFORD COUNCIL HANDS MORE MONEY TO DEVELOPERS

SALFORD COUNCIL'S £1.6 MILLION TO PEEL MEDIA AND COUNTRYSIDE PROPERTIES…

In expenditure details released last week, Salford Council has handed over £673,000 to MediaCityUK owners Peel Media in `capital grants', while loaning Countryside Properties over £1million.

The payments came in the same month that Salford City Council finalised over £40million of cuts in the city.

Last week the Salford Star revealed Salford Council expenditure over £500 for the month of March, including almost £70,000 on marketing and publicity, £8,500 on opinion surveys, over £3000 on a coffee consultancy and over £57,000 to Miller Homes property developers (see here for full details).

The Excel files for the expenditure also showed payments to Peel Media, which owns MediaCityUK, and Countryside Properties without giving any details. We can now reveal that an accompanying PDF file shows the true figures – three payments from the Chief Executive department totalling £673,020 in `capital grants' to Peel Media. And two loans totalling £1,042,819 to Countryside Properties, which is currently redeveloping Lower Broughton.

The payments came as Salford City Council was finalising over £40million cuts to the city's budget for this financial year, which included slashing budgets for youth services, homeless facilities and adult social services…

Whilst the Salford Mafia are busy bunging OUR money at their multi-millionaire business chums , the bastards are now slashing funding for the essential and valuable Working Class Movement Library .This library is the Jewel of this Dead City , but means nothing to the traitorous clowncil cretins . A truly disgraceful situation , and one which the Electorate of this Sewer City will not forget . Betrayal. Still no outrage from the plebs against the Swinetown Tinpot Mafia .The only difference between this lot and the rioters is a few broken windows . One lot loot by rioting , the other lot loot by deceit .Wake up Salford Sheeple .

Well said , Pimpernelle . Also , when we opt for an elected mayor , we won't need the 'executive' garbage - spouters this rotton council is stuffed with . No more obscene-salaried Scary ,creeping out the back door to avoid the angry electorate , and good riddance .With all the money saved , we can force a huge reduction in the extortionate council tax . Per ardua , ad astra .

Just a thought... Salford Ratepayers are paying a cool million to countryside properties? For what exactly? "Redeveloping" Lower Broughton has currently involved them building a development which was meant for private sale - but instead has gone out to a Housing Association for private rent. Q: Where's the return for the people of Salford Here? Peel Media is Part of a Multi Million pound listed company so here's another poser Q: What are these grants in use for? I could venture a thought..Salford Ratepayers financing a private concern, with no benefit to the people in the surrounding area If someone says i'm wrong - show me the figures! As the songwriter Paul Simon wrote - PROOF is the bottom line for everyone!

The People of this land have sleepwalked into tyranny . Another obscenity , tossing OUR money at multi-millionaire businesses , whilst slashing bubgets for the disadvantaged . Where is the outrage against the Swinetown Cretins , you brainwashed salford sheep ? You are merely playing into the grubby hands of those who govern by deceit and treachery .Or do you expect a couple of ' jobs for salford ' to be offered in exchange for bundles of OUR loot ? Cleaners, parking attendants , waitresses ?

PROTEST AT THE LOWRY AS STUDENTS GET DEGREES

Yesterday, as students received their degrees at The Lowry, Professor James Newell and UCU supporters were outside raising awareness of how the University of Salford sacked him, after 27 years service, for basically failing to chase money in what has become a national cause against the marketisation of education.

Almost 3,500 people have signed a petition calling for Professor Newell's reinstatement, as he told the Salford Star that marketisation "is the essential issue that underlies the exorbitant fees that students have to pay..."

HARROP FOLD CLOSES FOR THE DAY DUE TO PROTEST

As pupils and parents prepared to protest the suspension of Harrop Fold head teacher, Drew Povey, and three other staff, the school closed today citing the "distressing effect on our students".

Some pupils, parents and members of the community did show up outside the school gates anyway, with one parent saying the suspensions were "unjust...He needs to be here doing his job".

Bizarre graffiti art has appeared near Salford Central Station depicting two delighted looking Peppa Pigs by the slogan 'Communism is for the children'. The art has led to much amusement and bemusement but is probably related to China banning the popular kids' cartoon.

SPRUCE COURT AND THORN COURT TENANTS GET ORGANISED TO FIGHT BACK

"We're sick to death of being treated like dirt..."

Last night, tenants from Spruce Court and Thorn Court met to share concerns over dangerous cladding, fire safety, security and other issues, as they united to take on towerblock manager Pendleton Together and Salford City Council, which owns the blocks.

"They try to ignore what we're saying" insisted one tenant "They're complacent... we're sick to death of being treated like dirt...".
